Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity in our Executive and Professional Liability division for a Senior Underwriter to join the Financial Institutions (FI) team based in our Chicago office.

In this role you will focus on developing broker relationships, prequalifying new business opportunities, managing an existing portfolio of business, and growing a book of business in our Central and West regions. The Underwriter will be actively involved with Management in the building of the platform and product offering.

You will handle day-to-day responsibilities as an FI Underwriter. Tasks will include marketing to distribution channels, utilizing underwriting acumen to select sound underwriting risks and form opinions of risk. Expand and develop new business opportunities through production & marketing calls with brokers and clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage and build upon a book of business that is consistent with the team’s strategic focus.
• Expand on broker and customer relationships.
• Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners.
• Effectively communicate BHSI’s value proposition to brokers and customers.
• Collaborate with teammates across all product lines to create a positive experience for our customers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 3 to 7 years of experience underwriting or broking financial lines for public companies, private or non-profit entities, or financial institutions.
• Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis and financial markets.
• Foundational to high level of understanding of policy forms and coverage types including:
  Directors and Officers Liability, Errors and Omissions, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability and Fidelity.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

The base salary range for this position is from $100K – 150K along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience.
