Job Description

Executive Underwriter — Miscellaneous Professional Liability:
Acts as the leading technical authority for MPL across a wholesale territory, working independently and autonomously subject to required process oversight. Serves as the go‑to advisor on MPL coverage, exposures and wordings for colleagues across the segment, including senior underwriting leaders. Underwrites MPL policies within delegated authority, making acceptance and declination decisions based on analytical, data‑driven assessment of submitted information and pricing the risk appropriately.

Typical exposures include E&O claims for consultants, IT/service providers and other non‑class specific professionals, media/communications risks, and other miscellaneous advisory or service professions. Where applicable, may be responsible for setting the business plan and portfolio strategy for the MPL book in the territory.

Responsibilities
  • Manages portfolio of brokers/agents & clients, leveraging market presence and expertise to develop and underwrite profitable business, acting as a representative for Liberty.
  • Maintains relationships with senior/market‑leading brokers and key agents, maintaining a strong market presence.
  • Strengthens and develops new relationships, articulating key coverage differences in detail.
  • Provides significant input into business and marketing planning, including advanced data‑driven insights from portfolio analysis.
  • Participates in projects across departments designed to drive underwriting and process excellence.
  • Models effective collaboration across teams, stakeholders and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in North America).
  • Has strong knowledge of key legal cases, legislation and regulation impacting areas of underwriting expertise.
  • Shares knowledge based on technical expertise, providing external thought leadership; mentors, coaches, and trains other underwriters and internal partners.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Business or equivalent, typically required.
  • Minimum of 7 years, ideally 10 or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or related business experience.
  • Prefer CPCU or other professional insurance designation.
  • Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues, capable of defining and implementing necessary processes and workflows.
  • Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
