Senior Underwriter - LIHTC Proprietary Investments
Tokio Marine America is an established insurance provider with a 140+ year legacy in the U.S. market. We offer unique insurance and risk management tools across major lines of Commercial Property and Casualty. The role manages producer distribution and new business underwriting for Ocean or Inland Marine Lines in an assigned territory.
Responsibilities- Initiate and manage relationships with producers meeting Tokio Marine guidelines.
- Perform marketing duties for producers, including in-person visits and monitoring results to adjust production goals.
- Produce new business and renew existing portfolio in line with plan.
- Achieve plan loss ratio by determining acceptability of risk through underwriting guidelines.
- Work within established workflows to meet regional time service goals.
- Service designated book of business within company underwriting guidelines.
- Evaluate reviews and make corrective actions on existing accounts.
- Make recommendations on risks exceeding letter of authority using referral procedures.
- Control new business, renewals, endorsements to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Issue quotations, policies, endorsements, cancellations/non-renewal notices.
- Recommend and place proper reinsurance when necessary and authorized.
- Promote activities between Marine Department, AEOs, and producers to maximize renewals and new opportunities.
- Assist Corporate Reinsurance, Accounting and Claims with arising problems.
- Assist in training other staff members.
- Prioritize and delegate work to meet department deadlines; review completed work for quality.
- Assist Accounting with timely collection of overdue premiums, aiming for 90‑day minimums.
- Reduce administrative level within all departments.
- Create new business ideas and systems to achieve overall department business plan.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls required for job functions.
- Minimum 5 years of ocean or inland marine underwriting experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to innovate and apply new ideas.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Participation in insurance related courses.
Salary range: $109,000 to $150,000 (based on experience and geographic location). Competitive benefits package with bonus eligibility, 401(k) match, medical and vision insurance, pension plan, paid maternity and paternity leave, tuition assistance.
