Platform Engineering Summer Internship

Position: Application Platform Engineering Summer Internship
We're looking for an intern to join our Digital Servicing web team! In this role, you’ll work directly as a member of the team to help build out a new world class financial services experience, tying together checking, credit, and loan products. Working within the technology organization at Avant, you'll be working cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data, and Compliance to help build beautiful, resilient and accessible user experiences.

What you’ll do at Avant:
* Build rapid prototypes using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Cursor, etc.)
* Create proofs-of-concept for:  + Developer tooling  + Automation scripts  + Platform services  + Observability & reliability workflows
* Turn rough ideas and whiteboard concepts into working demos
* Produce high-quality technical documentation:  + Architecture overviews  + How-to guides  + Runbooks  + Process docs
* Improve internal developer experience through clearer standards and tooling

Why you’re at fit at Avant:
* Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
* Strong curiosity and ability to learn quickly
* Comfortable experimenting with AI tools to accelerate work
* Basic programming experience in at least one language
* Clear written communication (you’ll document a lot — and that’s a good thing)
* Enjoys turning messy ideas into structured solutions

This role is based on our downtown Chicago Office, located in the Merchandise Mart. We highly value collaboration and our hybrid schedule (M, T, Th in-office) enables flexibility to balance work and individual priorities.
**** Compensation Range:
**** The base salary range for this job is USD $36 - USD $40/ hour
** Employees will be evaluated for any new role at their current level. Employees new to a role typically come in below the midpoint of the pay range.
