Position Summary

The SIS Data Analyst is responsible for extracting, analyzing, validating, and maintaining high-quality data within the student information environment. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of student data within the Aspen SIS ecosystem and supports district wide reporting, compliance, and decision-making. The ideal candidate combines advanced SQL expertise, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of K-12 data structures to transform complex information into clear, actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

Extract, analyze, and validate student information data across the Aspen SIS and related district systems.

Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of student records across multiple data sources and formats.

Develop and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and data transformations supporting reporting, validation, and troubleshooting.

Produce data visualizations, dashboards, and reports using tools such as Power BI, iReport/Jasper Reports, or similar platforms.

Support state reporting and district compliance by ensuring high-quality data preparation and validation.

Investigate data anomalies, discrepancies, and cross-system issues using a methodical, "detective style" analytical approach.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and translate them into technical requirements.

Support Agile workflows, including backlog refinement, sprint ceremonies, and iterative delivery cycles.

Communicate complex technical findings in clear, non-technical language for school, district, and technical stakeholders.

Maintain awareness of data life cycles, stewardship practices, access controls, and governance standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Technical Skills

Advanced proficiency in SQL programming and data manipulation (required).

Experience with XML and JSON data structures (preferred).

Proficiency with data visualization or reporting tools such as Power BI, iReport/Jasper Reports, or equivalent platforms.

Strong understanding of relational and dimensional database design.

Ability to merge, compare, and analyze data across multiple formats and distributed systems.

Deep familiarity with data lifecycle management, quality assurance, and Agile delivery processes.

Analytical & Soft Skills

Strong investigative mindset, capable of uncovering root causes within complex, interconnected data environments.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Ability to analyze problems under pressure and propose clear, data-informed solutions.

Highly collaborative with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
