Systems Engineer

Design and operate resilient systems that power Octave-X’s AI platform.

Octave-X runs a heterogeneous stack of services, data infrastructure, and GPUs to support our AI products. As a Systems Engineer, you will design and operate the underlying systems that keep everything fast, reliable, and secure.

You will work across networking, compute, storage, and observability to ensure our platform scales with customer demand while maintaining strong security and compliance guarantees.

This role is remote-friendly with the option to work from our Chicago office.

• Design and maintain core systems for compute, storage, and networking.
• Implement automation for provisioning, configuration, and scaling of services.
• Collaborate with Dev Ops and ML teams on performance and capacity planning.
• Harden systems against failures and security threats.
• Contribute to runbooks, documentation, and operational tooling.

• 3+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer, SRE, or similar role.
• Strong background in Linux systems administration and shell scripting.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.).
• Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar).
• Working knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, firewalls).

• Experience in environments running GPU workloads or high-performance computing.
• Background with Kubernetes or other orchestration platforms.
• Exposure to security and compliance practices in production environments.
• Ability to debug complex distributed systems end-to-end.

• Comfort participating in an on‑call rotation.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $210,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Includes equity and a full suite of benefits.
