Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: SQL Server Data Systems Analyst / SQL Server Data Systems Support Engineer, 25-14057

The Short Scoop

We are looking for a strong, independent SQL professional with advanced T-SQL and SQL Server experience to own the health, performance, and reliability of customer data pipelines.

This is not an entry-level role.

This is not a hand-off role.

This is not a “run a script and escalate” job.

You will be trusted to analyze issues deeply, make sound technical judgments, and follow problems through to resolution — end to end.

Location & Logistics
  • 100% Remote, Chicago, IL preferred
  • Strong preference for Midwest / Central time
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder
  • Must be fully available and working by 7:00 AM CT
  • Salary range: $85,000 – $120,000
  • Stable company, thoughtful team, real problems to solve
What You’ll Own
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex data and SQL Server issues in production environments
  • Writing, reviewing, and improving advanced T-SQL (complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning)
  • Monitoring and maintaining customer data integrations for accuracy, reliability, and timing
  • Independently applying and validating software patches and upgrades
  • Managing multiple issues at once — thoughtfully, not reactively
  • Communicating clearly with customers and internal teammates until issues are fully resolved
  • Identifying patterns, root causes, and opportunities to make systems better, not just “working again”

Ownership matters here. When something breaks,
you don’t wait for someone else to think — you think.

What We Mean by “Advanced SQL Server”

You have real, hands-on experience with:

  • Advanced T-SQL (not just SELECT statements)
  • Query performance tuning and execution plans
  • Stored procedures, functions, indexing strategies
  • Understanding how SQL Server behaves under load
  • Troubleshooting data issues that don’t have obvious answers

If your SQL experience is mostly theoretical or tool-driven, this won’t be the right fit.

How You Work
  • You’re comfortable working independently and managing your own priorities
  • You take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
  • You think before you code — and your solutions reflect that
  • You’re curious, methodical, and persistent when problems get tricky
  • You communicate clearly, calmly, and professionally (especially when things aren’t going perfectly)

You don’t need constant direction — but you value good collaboration.

What We’re Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of professional experience working with SQL Server
  • Advanced proficiency in T-SQL (this is mandatory)
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and data pipelines
  • Experience supporting production systems in Windows environments
  • Comfort working across VMs, VPNs, and customer environments
  • Strong self-management, prioritization, and follow-through
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data, Math, or related field (or equivalent real-world experience)
  • Experience with Power BI or paginated reports
  • Exposure to compiled languages (C#, C++, Java, etc.) Preferred
Why This Role Is Different
  • You’ll have real ownership
    , not constant escalation
  • You’ll work with leaders who value clear thinking and good judgment
  • You’ll grow into broader responsibilities over time — development, consulting, or leadership paths are real
  • This role is designed to be mastered
    , not churned

Career growth isn’t a buzzword here — it’s expected.

Final Word

If you’re the kind of person who likes to own the problem, understand the system, and deliver clean solutions — this role will feel good.

If you’re looking for step-by-step instructions or light SQL work, this is not right for you.
