Overview

Equity Residential is seeking a Manager of Security Operations to lead a high-impact team protecting the organization around the clock. You’ll be at the center of our cybersecurity defense, overseeing 24/7 security operations, advancing the security program, and ensuring our people, systems, and data remain secure in an evolving threat landscape. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise to enforce security policies, monitor critical technologies, and drive rapid incident response.

You will work with senior security leadership to mature our security posture and continuously improve how we protect the business.

Responsibilities
  • Coach, mentor, and supervise the Security Operations team; ensure accountability and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Maintain security metrics (MTTR, MTTE, MTTA).
  • Enforce security policies and procedures; maintain and document security controls.
  • Drive team engagement and evangelize the Security Operation Program and Sec/Dev/Ops concepts.
  • Ensure uptime of network and security systems; oversee the vulnerability management program.
  • Translate threat intelligence into actionable defensive strategies.
  • Coordinate red team / blue team exercises; perform research and data analysis of possible security events.
  • Document and investigate security incidents according to the incident response policy; provide root cause analysis and restore services as needed.
  • Mentor less experienced team members; collaborate with Infrastructure team; support high-priority security challenges.
  • Train the Security Operations team and IT peers on new tools and enhancements; ensure platform accessibility and best practices.
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses and reports as needed; this role requires 24x7 availability when necessary.
  • Represent the company professionally to residents, coworkers, and the general public.
Technical skills requirements
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience as an Information Security professional.
  • Minimum 3–5 years designing and maintaining firewall policies.
  • Minimum 2–4 years in IP addressing/subnetting, routing, VPN concepts, VLAN configuration, and L2/L3 switching.
  • Minimum 2–4 years working with Azure Cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM, EDR, CSPM, SOAR, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Strong understanding of servers, operating systems, and networks; familiarity with Cyber intelligence activities (IOCs, threat actors).
  • Experience with IPS/IDS, DLP, proxies for web filtering/SSL decryption, DMZ architectures, and L2–L7 troubleshooting.
  • Strong Incident Response skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Computer Science or related); equivalent experience considered.
  • Platform Certifications such as GCIA, CCSP, CISSP, CCNP are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proven project management and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong self-directed work habits and initiative.
  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and accurate; able to convey network concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, excellent communication skills, and passion for security.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $155,000 – $189,000 per year. A discretionary 13% annual bonus is provided in addition to base salary. The starting pay is determined based on job-related skills, experience, and qualifications.
