Principal Data Analyst - Global Network; Discover

At Capital One, data is at the center of everything we do. This role is part of an integration effort with Discover Financial Services, supporting Capital One associates and the Discover/Global Payment Network (GPN) business. The GNA (Global Network Analytics) department provides analytical solutions across the lifecycle of participant management, touching marketing, pricing, fraud, automation, restitution, GenAI, and text modeling.

On a typical day you will work across three areas:
Innovation, Business Intelligence, and Data Management.

• Innovation:
  Use open source and digital technologies to mine complex data sources and platforms; build well‑managed data solutions and tools to enable self‑service data consumption; explore and quickly grasp new technologies to progress initiatives.
• Business Intelligence:
  Partner with the business to translate needs into tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization; drive analyses that inform business strategies.
• Data Management:
  Promote data quality principles including metadata, lineage, and business definitions; collaborate with Tech teams on data access governance and security; build and execute tools to monitor and report data quality.

• Degree specialized in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline
• Scripting experience in Python, R, Spark, and SQL
• Strong desire and experience with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data)
• Experience utilizing and developing within AWS services

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related) with at least 5 years of data analytics experience, or a Master’s Degree with at least 3 years of data analytics experience (degree expected by start date).
• At least 3 years of experience with at least one scripting language
• At least 3 years of experience using a business intelligence visualization tool
• At least 3 years of experience querying, analyzing, and working with data languages and platforms

• Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics field
• At least 4 years of experience coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQL
• At least 4 years of experience with process management and improvement methodologies (Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
• At least 2 years of experience utilizing and developing within AWS services
• At least 2 years of experience delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts in financial services

Salary ranges (for eligible locations):

• Riverwoods, IL: $119,400 - $136,200
• Chicago, IL: $119,400 - $136,200
• New York, NY: $143,200 - $163,500

Candidates hired in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location. The actual offer will be reflected in the offer letter. This role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and long-term incentives (LTI).
