IT Manager – HR/Financial Application Support
Hybrid Chicago Loop – NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking an IT Manager to oversee the reliability, maintenance, support, and continuous operation of its Administrative Systems.
Job SummaryNORC is a research institution that provides reliable data and analysis to support critical decisions. This IT Manager will manage the day‑to‑day operations for the Administrative Systems applications, ensuring stability and quality of the systems while leading a team of technical staff.
Responsibilities- Manage day‑to‑day operations for NORC’s Administrative Systems applications.
- Provide technical leadership to staff and work with senior members of the department.
- Allocate resources, manage personnel, provide mentorship, resolve conflicts, and communicate with IT management.
- Proactively hire and train new staff based on projected staffing demands and financial needs.
- Act as a liaison between IT management and administrative departments such as Accounting, Finance, and NORC People.
- Work cross‑functionally to identify and remediate problems by prioritizing changes that benefit stakeholders.
- Participate in critical incidents, facilitate meetings to resolve issues, discuss monthly service reports, and escalating challenges.
- Develop processes and procedures within the functional area and ensure compliance with departmental policies.
- Maintain stability and quality of administrative systems by following operational standards and keeping support plans organized and readily available.
- Promote standardization and automation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years managing third‑party financial applications (cost accounting, timekeeping, HRIS, budgeting).
- At least 3 years in a management or leadership capacity.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint, ADP Enterprise, Cognos, or IBM TM1 preferred.
- Prior expertise in SQL queries, data extractions, report writing, and maintaining system interfaces (ETL).
- Good understanding of systems development lifecycle and ability to support new changes in applications.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to juggle multiple tasks with minimum supervision.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Capacity to work independently, delegate appropriately, and show creative problem‑solving.
Pay range: $129,000 – $185,000.
