We are seeking an experienced, hands-on individual to join our Marketing & Communications team, with primary responsibility for the design, development, and day‑to‑day execution of the Chicago Dental Society’s web presence.

Position Overview

The Manager, Web Design & Development is a hands‑on digital professional responsible for the day‑to‑day design, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s websites and related digital properties. This role requires strong technical execution, sound design judgment, and the ability to independently manage web updates within a Word Press environment.

This is a working manager role. A successful candidate will personally execute web design and content updates, ensure usability and accessibility standards, and continuously improve the website’s performance and user experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain web pages within the organization’s Word Press CMS (Divi experience is a plus), ensuring functionality, design consistency, and accessibility.
  • Execute page updates, new page builds, and layout refinements independently
  • Create landing pages, update navigation, and implement new features or content modules.
  • Monitor website performance and user experience, and proactively implement improvements based on analytics, usability best practices, and organizational priorities.
  • Apply consistent visual design, layout, and branding across the website
  • Partner with internal teams to align content strategy with organizational priorities, and translate content and business needs into effective web experiences.
  • Manage incoming web requests, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
  • Serve as a key point of contact for web‑related questions and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external vendors or developers as needed, with the ability to assess and validate their work
Documentation & Standards
  • Maintain documentation for web standards, workflows, and best practices
  • Ensure adherence to brand, accessibility, and governance guidelines

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in web design, digital media, or a related field.

    Or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of hands‑on experience managing and updating websites within a CMS environment, with demonstrated expertise in Word Press. Experience must include independent execution of web design and content updates in a live production environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of page builders (e.g., Divi or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of web design principles, UX, and responsive design.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS sufficient to edit, troubleshoot, and refine layouts.
  • Ability to work independently in an existing web environment with minimal documentation.
  • Experience managing multiple web projects simultaneously in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices, Google Analytics, and web accessibility standards.
  • All selected applicants must complete a skills test prior to moving into a first interview.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working in nonprofits, associations, or member‑driven organizations.
  • Comfort working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with shifting priorities.
Physical Demands / Environment

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an exchange of information; collect, compile, and prepare work documents; set‑up and maintain work files. Use of the computer, with repetitive motion, is approximately 90%.

Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Occasional local travel may be required.
