Duties and ResponsibilitiesLaw School Computing Services (LSCS) delivers efficient and effective technical support services to Law School students, staff, and faculty across all the Law School’s programs (Full-time and Weekend J.D. and non-J.D. programs) that enhance the educational experience and promote operational excellence consistent with ABA requirements. LSCS partners with Law School’s Offices of the Dean, Administration, and Academic Affairs to establish the Law School’s strategic vision, priorities, and goals related to instructional and classroom technology.
Additionally, LSCS collaborates with University Information Technology Services to advocate for the technology needs of the Law School and to promote the implementation of technology best practices. To meet the evolving needs of the Law School and to ensure continued compliance with ABA standards, LSCS is open and receptive to new information, ideas, and approaches, works to keep abreast of new and evolving technologies, and is adaptable.
All members of the LSCS team are prepared to respond to changing priorities based on the time of the semester and special projects and initiatives. The ability to work on evenings or weekends to support special events, Weekend JD in-person sessions, and final exams is required. The Law School Assistant Technology Specialist provides first level technical computing and instructional technology support to Law School faculty, staff, students and events and supports project-based work.
This position supports classroom technology systems and executes a range of technical tasks and troubleshooting related to Law School desktop and classroom hardware, software, and systems. The Law Assistant Technology Specialist proactively communicates with the LSCS team and members of the community regarding service requests, events, or other tasks and projects, creates user documentation, and provides training to Law faculty, staff and students, as directed.
All staff in the School of Law report to the Associate Dean for Administration. Additionally, Law School Assistant Technology Specialist is accountable to the Director of Law School Technology.
- Provide classroom technology and media support to Law School users. This includes maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting of classroom technology systems.
- Serve as LSCS primary in-person point-of-contact for the Weekend JD Program.
- Advise faculty and staff on classroom technology requirements and limitations.
- Prepare rooms with proper equipment for events (e.g., classroom teaching, meetings, seminars, etc.).
- Troubleshoot issues for online course/conference moderators and attendees.
- Provide first-level technical computing support and related services to Law faculty, staff, and students, establishing priorities for service request resolution and coordinating resources.
- Perform the initial intake of new LSCS requests and manage them through the tracking system to completion.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Mac hardware and software, including deploying new hardware, maintaining an inventory database, installing software releases, system upgrades, and patches.
- Provide training for Law School software and hardware systems; create and maintain user and system documentation.
- Support Law School Exams, assisting with pre-exam setup, communication, and support during exam periods (may require irregular or weekend hours).
- Work as a team member on technology projects that support Law staff, faculty, students, and departments, responding to changing priorities and collaborating to troubleshoot and resolve service requests.
- Maintain security protocols for Law School systems and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
