The PositionOur community bank client is seeking a Payroll Specialist in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will handle preparing, disbursing, maintaining, and reviewing payroll, salary adjustments, payroll taxes, and the year-end process, along with acting as administrator for all employee benefit plans.
The role offers a salary of up to $65K, plus incentives and excellent benefits. (This is not a remote position)
Responsibilities include:- Administer payroll processing, tax filing, and benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, disability, FSA, paid leave, 401k, and ESOP.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of salary/hourly changes, deductions, taxes, and garnishments.
- Maintain time and attendance records ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Update deduction and leave codes in ADP as needed.
- Participate in benefit renewal meetings and coordinate staff presentations.
- Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and maintain benefit records.
- Distribute benefit plan documents and employee communications.
- Oversee use of leave, including FMLA and other absences.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements (ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, IRS, FLSA).
- Meet all tax deadlines and procedures accurately.
- Administer 401(k) and ESOP plans, including testing and contributions.
- Manage leave accruals and run payroll reports.
- Calculate final pay and benefits for terminated employees.
- Oversee Workers’ Compensation claims and COBRA continuation.
- Process annual W2 and 1094/1095 forms.
- Adhere to laws and policies to minimize risk.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of related experience required.
- Accounting and GL experience preferred.
- Benefit administration background preferred.
- Extensive payroll knowledge, including taxes and internal controls.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software, especially ADP.
