We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Interim Payroll Consultant – Workday to join our dynamic People Operations team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise running payroll through Workday, strong knowledge of payroll processes, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance. This role will support payroll operations for approximately 400 U.S. employees and collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure a seamless payroll experience.
Interim Payroll Consultant – Workday Responsibilities- Process biweekly and monthly payroll cycles in Workday, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Review and audit employee timecards, compensation changes, bonus payouts, and other payroll‑impacting data.
- Maintain employee payroll records, tax forms, deductions, and direct deposit details in Workday.
- Reconcile payroll data and identify discrepancies, resolving issues proactively with employees and People Operations partners.
- Coordinate with HR and Finance teams on payroll adjustments, reporting needs, and general ledger entries.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Prepare payroll reports, metrics, and audits as needed for leadership or regulatory bodies.
- Stay current on payroll regulations specific to Illinois and multi‑state environments.
- Support year‑end processes including W‑2 distribution, tax filings, and audit requests.
- 2–4 years of payroll experience, ideally in a multi‑state environment.
- Hands‑on experience with Workday Payroll (processing, auditing, reporting).
- Strong understanding of wage and hour laws, payroll taxes, and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a customer‑service mindset.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
- Competitive salary range: $80,000 – $90,000, based on experience.
- Hybrid work model (3 days in our Chicago Loop office, 2 days remote).
