Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is a not-for-profit social service agency with over 70 program sites across Illinois. Our services include counseling, mental health, substance abuse treatment, housing, work with prisoners and their families, and services for older adults and children such as preschool, foster care, and adoption.

We are hiring two On-call Crisis Counselors for Project IMPACT at Thorek Memorial Hospital Andersonville in Chicago. Project IMPACT is a 24/7 behavioral health crisis program aligned with hospital emergency departments in Chicago and Oak Park. The crisis teams conduct onsite and phone intakes for triage, evaluation, crisis intervention, disposition, admission, and resource linkage. Crisis Counselors assess patients in crisis, develop care plans, and connect them to appropriate mental health, substance use, and behavioral health services, including inpatient hospitalization.

The environment is dynamic, with a wide range of patient presentations across the behavioral health spectrum.

• Clinically assess patients and determine immediate intervention needs
• Familiarize with local resources to serve diverse patient needs
• Maintain HIPAA and privacy standards with proper documentation
• Work within a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with staff and external agencies

• Operate in emergency settings, potentially exposed to bodily fluids and pathogens
• Exhibit excellent communication skills
• Complete training promptly

• Understand insurance processes, especially Medicare/Medicaid

• Bachelor's in mental or behavioral health;
  Master’s preferred
• Licensure such as LSW/LCSW, LPC/LCPC, CADC preferred but not required
• At least 1 year experience in behavioral health preferred
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Adaptability to a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of HIPAA/privacy standards
• Ability to pass IM-CATS training and credentialing
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Records and insurance processes preferred

• Adhere to ethical standards
• Complete all documentation accurately in EHR
• Coordinate services within LSSI system for continuity of care
• Effective time management and organization
• Teamwork and individual accountability
• Maintain required training standards
