The Assistant Athletic Trainer will support and assist the Head Athletic Trainer to provide prevention, care, and rehabilitation services for student‑athlete athletic injuries in compliance with all institutional, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and other national and conference policies and guidelines.

The role provides athletic training coverage for team practices and competitions based on season and sport assignment as designated by the Head Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer collaborates with physicians and physical therapists for off‑campus appointments, evaluation, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, and medical clearance of athletic injuries.

Additionally, this position will aid in the management of the athletic training room, maintain comprehensive records of athletic injuries and treatments, formulate effective therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation plans and make referrals, and communicate regularly with coaching and administrative staff.

The role will assist with the development of the department’s Emergency Action Plan, as well as insurance related inquiries and the submission of any needed documentation, while performing other job‑related duties as assigned.

This is a full‑time, exempt position that reports to the Head Athletic Trainer. The primary work location is the Chicago campus, with work also conducted at off‑site home athletic facilities.

Salary: The salary range for this position is $58, annually.

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification
  • First Aid / CPR / AED Certified
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel with University teams as required
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and select holidays during athletic seasons
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors

Equipment Operated: Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/multi‑function device, fax and telephone).

Working Conditions: The assistant athletic trainer will work in varied conditions both indoor and outdoor depending on location of athletic teams practice and competitions. Trainer will handle biohazard medical materials, but will have proper training in handling these materials through mandated certification. The assistant athletic trainer will be required to work nights and weekends and will travel with athletic teams as needed during the academic/athletic year.
