Rush University Medical Center invites applications for the position of Pulmonary Critical Care/Adult ICU Per diem Advanced Practice Provider. This provider will join a team of physicians and APPs that delivers 24/7 care to critically ill medical patients at the Rush main campus. APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will perform procedures including central line placements, paracentesis, and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties.

  • There are more than 400 APPs employed across the Rush system. The AICU team is fully staffed with 9 APPs.
  • We work closely with palliative care, hepatology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, and other departments as part of a multidisciplinary ICU team.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • The AICU is a 28-bed unit staffed by both medical and surgical ICU teams.
  • This position is 100% inpatient.
Qualifications & Preferences
  • Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in the ICU are required.
  • APRN Candidates: will require Acute Care Certification.
Position Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
  • Current certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications

Physician Assistant:

  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
  • Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration across disciplines to ensure cost-effective and quality patient care. The successful candidate will align with Rush mission, vision, and values and comply with Rush policies, procedures, and Customer Service standards. Candidates must meet all applicable state and federal regulatory, practice, and accreditation standards.
