Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Interventional Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider.
Under the supervision and in collaboration with board‑certified gastroenterologists, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers high‑quality care to patients with digestive health concerns. This role is ideal for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs) with a passion for gastroenterology and chronic disease management.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Monday – Friday: 8:30am-5:00 PM; 36 hours of outpatient patient‑facing care per week. No call required.
- Outpatient Clinic Setting
- Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical exams focused on GI‑related conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and GI‑specific screenings.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for conditions such as GERD, IBD, IBS, liver disease, and colorectal cancer screening.
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and clinical guidelines.
- Educate patients and families on GI conditions, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.
- Promote shared decision‑making and informed consent.
- Refer patients to community resources and support groups as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care coordinators to ensure seamless patient care.
- Provide follow‑up care and monitor chronic conditions.
- Triage patient calls and messages, ensuring timely responses and interventions.
- Applicants with 2+ years of previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Gastroenterology or Surgery are preferred.
Nurse Practitioner:
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
- Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
- Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
- Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.
