Pay Range: $25.20 - $35.60 per hour

Summary

This position is responsible for accepting, processing, and performing waived and moderate laboratory testing and reporting for the testing area. This position requires teamwork to achieve common goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients. Required Job Qualifications
  • Experience:

    No previous experience required.
  • Associates degree or higher in relevant science required, or education/work experience meeting the qualification of moderate complexity testing personnel as defined by CLIA 42 CFR 493 1489.
  • Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform waived and moderate complexity testing. Employees' education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements delineated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1996. RUMC reserves the right to limit an MLT's scope of testing.
  • Certification (or eligible) from a nationally recognized certifying agency is required. Eligibility as determined by ASCP and/or AMT requirements. Some laboratory disciplines may require more stringent certification criteria.
Responsibilities Order Entry/Customer Service
  • Performs multiple computer entry, inquiry, and receiving functions.
  • Performs transcription of laboratory orders and registration activities when needed.
  • Demonstrates good communication and customer service skills on the phone and in person.
  • Calls critical results, documents to whom and that a “read back” was performed and within the expected time frame.
Specimen Processing
  • Accessions and processes specimens according to the appropriate procedure prepare specimens accordingly for transport or delivery.
  • Recognizes and resolves any specimen and equipment problems.
  • Delivers specimens to RUSH laboratory locations, and/or loads specimens on instrumentation.
Performs Laboratory Testing
  • Utilizes required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by the lab area.
  • Labels and processes specimens properly. Performs all laboratory procedures efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision once trained;
    All testing must be done following Rush-approved Policies and Procedures.
Quality Control and Preventative Maintenance
  • Perform required quality control (QC) procedures and preventative maintenance, including corrective action and documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation.
  • Recognizes QC problems or discrepancies and attempts to determine the cause of problem. Notifies appropriate supervisor or designee regarding QC problems or discrepancies according to the established procedure.
Troubleshooting
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes with minimal assistance, documents action and notifies appropriate personnel, for example, supervisors, of problems all the time. Able to recognize when additional help is needed and seek out that help.
Organization of Work Area
  • Keeps work area neat, clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times. Disinfects the area at the beginning and end of each shift.
Specimen Acceptability
  • Accepts no inappropriate specimens. Notifies the appropriate person of specimens that must be drawn or collected again and documents the notification.
