Job DescriptionThe OR Scrub Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwesternouble (NM). The position adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The OR Scrub Technician is a member of the surgical team in the operating room, under the guidance of the registered nurse.
The technician is responsible for the care and safety of the peri‑operative patient and for preparing the operating room for each surgical patient.
- Gather supplies, instruments, and equipment necessary to ensure the efficient and safe conduct of each surgical procedure.
- Properly care for and handle specimens and surgical instrumentation.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures that require the ability to stand for periods greater than six hours.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and take corrective action when technique is broken.
- Show fine motor skills and eye‑hand coordination needed to handle small, intricate surgical instruments, supplies, and specimens.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with all members of the surgical team.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure.
- Provide assistance to the surgical team, including draping the surgical site and handling sharps and instruments safely.
- Maintain accurate counts of all supplies, sutures, and sponge items on the sterile field.
- Orient new staff to the ORST role.
- Stock the room with supplies and equipment.
- Provide on‑call coverage for the department, either specialty or general, as designated by the manager.
- Follow orientation and take calls according to the On‑Call policy.
- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technologists.
- Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CRR) recognition at the healthcare provider level.
- Physical Demands Requirement:
- Lift/carry up to 50 pounds and exert a push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
- Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Minimum of two years current OR scrub technician experience.
