Responsibilities- Works in collaboration with UIH Laboratory Practice Utilization Committee (LPUC) and Laboratory Leadership to ensure all testing is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and results are entered into the patient medical charts.
- Uses data management and metrics in improvements and better patient outcomes.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates department performance directly or through appropriate supervisors in human resource activities, including recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management of personnel. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to support expected turnaround time goals.
- Develops and maintains a financial management and reporting system related to the operations of Specimen Processing and Send‑Out Services.
- Maintains computerized record management systems to store and process personnel and accounting data, ensuring interfaces with reference laboratories are accurate, efficient, and quality.
- Conducts fiscal operations, including accounting, planning budgets, and assisting in budget presentation to the administrators of the Pathology Laboratory Services.
- Assists in defining appropriate billing codes for new or revised tests, ensuring all codes are current and relevant.
- Maintains communication between governing boards, medical staff, and department heads by acting as administrative liaison with university administrators, department chairpersons, regional health officials, and institutions for planning long‑ and short‑range programs.
- Interfaces with physicians, clinic staff, and coordinators to assist in problem solving, policy interpretation, or orientation of new residents and faculty.
- Ensures quality of specimen processing and send‑out tasks, investigating and resolving non‑conforming events in a timely manner.
- Prepares and maintains standard operating procedures consistent with institutional, department, College of American Pathologists, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Maintains awareness of computerized diagnostic information as it relates to specimen requirements.
- Maintains awareness of government regulations, health insurance changes, and financing options for patient insurance.
- Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline closely related to the position.
- AND two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in a laboratory or similar setting closely related to the position.
