Job SummaryBehavioral Health Therapists make independent decisions about the course of therapy best suited to the needs of individuals and families with whom they provide services to. Responsible for facilitating a variety of direct service outpatient mental health and substance abuse activities, they may form an impression of the diagnosis, develop a treatment plan, and utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to help clients resolve personal problems.
Responsibilities- Provide Mental Health services – including assessment, treatment planning, and intervention – for children, adolescents and adults based on the needs of the patient and/or their families.
- Make diagnostic recommendations for review and approval by Director of Integrated Behavioral Health.
- Provide direct counseling to clients addressing behavioral and/or psychosocial issues in keeping with evidence-based practice standards.
- Complete screenings, intakes, and assessments; performs intake screening for clients using ASAM criteria to determine level of care, and or DSM criteria for diagnosis.
- Provide outpatient services aligned with DMH Rule 132 59 ILAC 132 and Title 77, Illinois Administrative Code Rule 2060.
- Provides individual, family, and group counseling in the clinic/office.
- Ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact is accurate, up to date and of good quality, working within the relevant accrediting standards.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that case management and care coordination needs are addressed.
- Facilitate didactic counseling and educational group sessions.
- Maintain and submit weekly/monthly statistical reports related to program services performed (service referrals received, [internal and external] BH screens, domestic violence screens, individual counseling sessions conducted, etc.).
- Utilize outcome tools/screenings to determine/track patient progress.
- Document all patient encounters and contacts made on behalf of patients utilizing prescribed forms/electronic health records; develop, complete, and submit progress reports.
- Assist in an on-going appraisal of the program, and peer review, which will result in continuous improvement in the quality of the program and in the development of new services.
- Ensure that each patient’s rights are protected and that they are provided with appropriate interventions based on ability to participate, cultural concerns, and diagnostic impression.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary staffing, program, and clinical meetings.
- Help participants in setting individualized goals for themselves and in assessing their own skills and resources related to goal attainment. Goals are set by exploring strengths and needs in the individual’s living, learning, social, and working environments. Implementation of services in the plan may take place individually or in groups.

- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Family Therapy, Doctoral-level Psychologist, or closely related field.
- A minimum of 2-year post-masters experience providing services to children, adolescents, and adults.
- Unrestricted Mental Health License as a LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Clinical Psychologist.
- Unrestricted certification as a CADC is also preferred.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge of mental health, substance abuse, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and ambulatory based care.
