Location: Chicago, IL – Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Shift: Day (Full-time)

Salary: $38.02 – $51.33 per hour

Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 (paid one installment after start)

Description

The Mammography Radiographer reflects the mission, vision and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Mammography Radiographer performs general mammography imaging procedures to generate imaging information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of inpatients and outpatients. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the request for procedures and assess the patient to determine the appropriate protocol.
  • Employ imaging systems, accessories, and patient positioning to generate mammography images.
  • Provide patient care throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards.
  • Evaluate resultant images against industry standards, taking corrective action if needed.
  • Perform preliminary interpretation and customize the procedure accordingly.
  • Notify physicians of significant changes in patient condition or unique imaging characteristics.
  • Assist the radiologist with interventional procedures and prepare sterile trays.
  • Maintain the medical record, including film and associated paperwork.
  • Provide patient education before, during, and after the procedure to reduce anxiety.
  • Adhere to safe radiation safety practices as dictated by Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and the NRC.
  • Perform Quality Control testing per FDA/ACR recommendations, notifying supervisors when results fall outside control limits.
  • Other functions:
    • Document imaging procedures manually or electronically to ensure correct charging.
    • Monitor stock of supplies, reordering and maintaining a clean environment.
    • Report equipment failures or irregularities to supervisors or quality control personnel promptly.
Qualifications Required
  • Graduation from a hospital‑based two‑year training program in Radiologic Technology or an Associate’s Degree in Radiology Technology.
  • Licensed by IEMA.
  • Registered with ARRT in Radiography (ARRT)(R).
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Clinical and technical competency in Mammography to meet MQSA requirements.
  • ARTR registered in Radiography Mammography within 12 months of start date.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of experience.
