Job Summary

Primarily performs general sonographic procedures. Ensures quality standards are met and promotes continuous quality improvement. Maintains current knowledge of sonographic technology and equipment as applicable. Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills. Acts as a knowledge resource for students, technologists, and others. This position will support some of our satellite sites in addition to the downtown hospital.

Job Functions
  • Performs general sonographic procedures according to department standard in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Produces examinations that meet image quality standards and submits images for physician interpretation.
  • Verifies accuracy of patient demographic information, pertinent clinical diagnosis, and required technical results.
  • Ensures accurate data entry in a timely fashion to provide optimal patient care.
  • Verifies all technical data entry components are complete prior to the end of shift.
  • Knowledgeable of process for, and can perform as needed, modality-specific quality control procedures.
  • Responsible for taking call on a rotating basis adhering to on-call policies and procedures.
  • Actively supports organizational changes and the business needs of the department.
  • Includes covering rotating shifts and satellite locations as needed; works cooperatively to accomplish additional tasks to achieve hospital/department objectives.
  • Adheres to institutional safety procedures described in the institutional safety program.
  • Actively participates in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care; works closely with nurses and physicians to achieve positive outcomes and optimal patient flow.
  • Performs job functions while modeling service principles with a customer-service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • Abides by and maintains a working knowledge of institutional policy and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) patient safety goals and guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) certification is mandatory. A sonographer may begin employment with the physics component of certification completed. Registry in abdomen must be completed within one year of graduation date, and registry in pediatric sonography within two administration cycles from the end of the 90-day orientation period. ARDMS certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required through the American Heart Association.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills; bilingual helpful.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions on a daily basis and handle stressful situations.
  • Operates a personal computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other department-specific software.
  • Maintains and updates educational record annually; meets all department required competencies.
  • Presents clear verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to move objects up to 20 lbs and move patients and equipment regularly.
Education

Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Pay Range

$37.00–$60.50 hourly.
