HIM Technician Onsite

Assures that a complete clinical data set is accessible and available to all users. Responds to customer needs for clinical information in either electronic or paper format. Works with Source corp (release of information vendor) in releasing the medical information for our internal and external customers.

• Receives and reviews all the requests for medical records for validity and verifies authorizations (non-billables only) including phone and fax.
• Processes all non-billable requests for release of information forwarded by Source corp.*
• Obtains Medical Record numbers from “INVISION” for all the non-billable requests and pulls medical records for each request.
• Retrieves data or records from various systems upon request of provider or outside reviewers as needed.
• Forwards records to Source corp for copying and mailing to the requester. *
• Copies the records for non-billable requests, as needed.
• Assists the Supervisor with outpatient exception report and all other reports as needed. *
• Provides phone support to department and assists with inquiries. *
• Reviews data in medical records or in electronic form for patient care, research, third-party inquiries, audits and accreditation visits.
• Ensures that clinical documentation supports the diagnosis and treatment and is complete according to Hospital regulation and supports billing for services rendered.
• Abstracts data as needed for patient care, follow-up research and other uses such as third-party reviews.
• Files Operative, Pathology and other clinical reports.
• Enhances skill sets through continuing education in clinical documentation and release of information guidelines.

• High school diploma; some college course work preferred
• Three years of experience in hospital Medical Records or comparable clinical setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong PC skills, data entry, database systems
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated customer service
• Must be able to work independently and demonstrated leadership skills

• Medical records: 2 years (Required)
• HIM: 5 years (Required)
