Job Summary

Primarily performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams including basic cardiac procedures, ensures quality standards are met, and promotes continuous quality improvement. Maintains current knowledge of MR technology and equipment, manages Patient Safety related to implant screening and clearance, performs aseptic injection technique for contrast administration, and models the hospital core values in communication and customer service. Acts as a knowledge resource for students, technologists, and others.

Job Duties
  • Produce examinations that meet image quality standards while verifying patient information is accurate and completing the exam with appropriate EPIC and PACS documentation/verification.
  • Communicate changes to the schedule due to late arrivals or potential issues via Voalte or phone to all parties.
  • Provide proper coverage per departmental need (call, holiday, off‑site coverage, adjustment of hours if needed, etc.).
  • Ensure quality control procedures are performed, scanners are restarted, hard drive space is monitored, and image quality meets departmental standards.
  • Participate actively in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working closely with nurses, physicians, radiologists, 3D technologists, and anesthesiologists to achieve positive outcomes and maintain efficient workflow.
  • Maintain knowledge of institutional policy and accreditation procedures applicable to the department.
  • Monitor the performance of a variety of exams biannually.
  • Perform other job functions as assigned (scheduling assistance, protocol development, image transfer, research support, etc.).
MRI Technologist Essential Job Functions
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) eligible in MR; must complete within one year of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Minimum 1 year MR imaging experience preferred; hospital setting a bonus.
  • Perform all basic MRI imaging procedures according to departmental standards in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Adhere to MR safety procedures as described in the MR safety program.
  • Participate in education and research as required.
  • Manage assigned scanners efficiently by following scheduled appointments and protocol guidelines.
  • Evaluate scanners in advance and verify implant clearance and protocol/exam correction prior to patient arrival.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Degree from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association required.
  • Strong critical thinking, versatile scanning capabilities, and ability to make quick, accurate decisions while handling stressful situations calmly.
  • Computer skills – maintain competence in Epic, basic Microsoft Office 365, and other department‑specific software.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with strong teamwork ability in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Maintain and update educational records annually.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modality‑specific quality control procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, empathy, emotional intelligence, resilience, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Other skills:
    Additional educational record maintenance and communication excellence.
