Recovery Counselor; RS

The Recovery Counselor will assess the client’s personal, medical, emotional, social, and environmental situation to plan for treatment through home, community, and office visits. This role involves providing motivational support to aid recovery from mental illness, advocating for clients, and linking them to community services. Services are client-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and utilize a harm reduction approach.

The Recovery Counselor will provide at least 60-75% of community support services in the community and manage their caseload with support from their Team Leader.

• Assess clients' situations through various visits.
• Develop recovery plans collaboratively.
• Identify and facilitate appropriate care levels and referrals.
• Recognize signs of de-compensation and assist in managing symptoms.
• Help clients improve independent living skills.
• Assist with entitlements applications.
• Support clients in appointments and issues related to housing, substance use, budgeting, social support, and medication.
• Advocate for clients and empower self-advocacy.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Either a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience and certifications as specified.
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License with insurance and access to a vehicle.
• Experience with mental health and/or substance abuse preferred.
