Code Enforcement Inspector (Part-Time)

The Village of Lombard is seeking a part-time Code Enforcement Inspector in the Community Development Department. The inspector will ensure public health, safety, and welfare by enforcing municipal codes, building codes, zoning code, property inspections, investigating complaints, issuing citations, educating and providing citizens with information, and working with other departments. This position is a fast‑paced customer service position.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with municipal codes and ordinances.
  • Investigate complaints and code violations, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Respond to public and online requests, determine non‑compliant situations, and secure authorization for inspections.
  • Research and document service requests using Village technology, schedule and perform inspections, and collect relevant property owner and tenant data.
  • Act as a primary education resource to the public on property codes and ordinances through verbal, written, and electronic communication.
  • Prepare and issue notification letters, stop‑work orders, violation letters, and tickets for Circuit Court or Administrative Adjudication.
  • Compile case summaries and evidence, perform pre‑court inspections, and testify in court or adjudication as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of code enforcement experience focusing on property maintenance and/or building codes, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Passage of the International Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification requirements within six months of employment.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency in using Village computer field technology, hardware, and software.
Salary & Benefits

Hourly rate: $32.37/hr – $46.02/hr.

Position: 24 hours a week (Monday to Friday and every other Saturday) with occasional flexibility for evening or weekend work.

Benefits include IMRF pension, paid sick and vacation days, and paid holidays.
