Controller | Private Equity

Hybrid opportunity (3x/week) with one of Chicagoland's fastest-growing private equity firms.

A well-established private equity firm is seeking a Controller to report directly to the CFO. The firm manages multiple investment funds and continuation vehicles.

This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role overseeing fund reporting, transaction accounting, valuations, tax coordination, and firm‑level operational finance.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
• 7–10 years of progressive fund accounting or financial management experience
• Significant hands‑on fund reporting experience
• Open to candidates from alternative investment firms OR public accounting (audit/tax) with fund exposure
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with fund accounting systems
• Strong operational mindset with a track record of improving processes

• Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements to limited partners
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including cash management
• Manage expense payments, quarterly closes, journal entries, and GAAP‑compliant accruals
• Coordinate and support external audits

• Manage accounting for purchase and sale transactions, including due diligence, review of agreements, closing statements, treasury, and acquisition/disposition reporting
• Review and validate investment valuations alongside the investment team
• Calculate Gross and Net IRRs and other performance metrics

• Monitor all cash management functions of the funds and management companies
• Prepare capital call and distribution notices to LPs and GPs
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations
• Manage lines of credit used to bridge capital calls

• Prepare deliverables for year‑end audits
• Manage external accounting firm for tax allocations, partnership returns, and K‑1s
• Partner with advisors on tax planning strategies

• Improve and streamline financial processes and internal controls
• Support investor marketing materials, annual meetings, and fundraising efforts
• Partner with senior leadership on reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
