Sims is seeking a Tax Manager to join its Corporate Tax Department. This role reports directly to the North America Senior Tax Manager. It's a hybrid position. For days reporting to the office, this will be at 200 W Madison St, Ste 3950, Chicago, IL 60606.
This role supports the U.S. legal entities of the Sims North American Group. The role is multi-disciplinary, including tax financial reporting, tax provision calculations for each reporting period, certain federal and state tax compliance support, and other projects related to the OTP software. The role will also have the opportunity to work on projects related to Tax Accounting and International Taxation.
This position will be instrumental in supporting corporate tax provision, compliance, and related projects, providing daily support to the business, and serving as a valued member of the Finance group.
- Preparation of the corporate tax provision, including working with One Source Tax Provision software for all US calculations.
- Preparation and review of the corporate tax return preparation (federal and state), and ad-hoc compliance-related projects.
- Gather and review information to CSC to file all state annual reports and DBAs for Sims’ internal companies.
- Gather, validate, and document all the financial information necessary for the preparation of the income tax provision.
- Prepare the tax roll forward schedule of share-based compensation using DTA reports.
- Effectively partner with internal departments and work closely with finance, accounting, and treasury.
- Conduct tax research to support a tax position and/or document an issue with a resolution.
- Create, plan, and prepare spreadsheet-based analyses and reports.
- A multi-disciplinary position will also support other tax work streams, including US international compliance, tax accounting, and indirect compliance, specifically oversight of sales & use tax filings and personal property tax filings.
- Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts and balances.
- Prepare memoranda to document or communicate tax research, issues, or positions.
- Assist and manage various income tax audits as requested.
- Assist with and review the resolution of tax notices from various jurisdictions.
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assist the group in maintaining and enhancing One Source Tax Provision for all US legal entities.
- Assist on special projects and support the business operations for any tax related issue.
- Knowledge of ASC
740 accounting/IAS 12 - Understanding the impacts on the effective tax rate in the tax provision calculations
- Basic knowledge of BNA Tax Research software is a plus
- Able to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law, and make appropriate recommendations to the business
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources
- Deadline-oriented, organized, and able to deliver on timeliness
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically Microsoft Excel
- Highly motivated, strong work ethic, hardworking, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
- Strong leadership and personnel management skills
- Analytical skills with detail orientation
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting or related field from a four-year college or university, with a focus in taxation preferred
- Accounting experience with a financial accounting system (i.e., AX, SAP, SAI, Oracle, Hyperion)
- Must be proficient with Thomson Reuters One Source Tax Provision software and have used it in the last six months.
- Five years’ related experience and/or training involving income tax provision preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
- Excellent time management and detail-oriented
