A well-established construction company located in Chicago is seeking a Controller/CFO to join their leadership team. This hybrid position offers compensation up to $160,000, depending on experience, and will play a critical role in overseeing the financial health and operations of the business. This organization is known for its close-knit, collaborative team, and long-tenured employees, and offers a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, 401k with employer contribution and a discretionary bonus.

Experience in the construction industry and with all aspects of preparation of WIP schedules is required.

Key Responsibilities of the Controller/CFO:

  • Lead all financial operations, including oversight of cash flow and liquidity planning
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-term cash flow forecasts on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Manage relationships with banks and oversee lines of credit and other financing arrangements
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and the preparation of projected financial statements
  • Coordinate and manage year-end audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Administer insurance programs, including property and casualty coverage
  • Manage bonding requirements, licensing, and compliance documentation
  • Review and administer subcontractor agreements and related financial obligations

Qualifications of the controller/CFO:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction accounting
  • Demonstrated expertise in work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and analysis
  • Experience preparing lien waivers and managing related documentation
  • Proficiency with construction accounting systems such as Sage, Vista, or comparable platforms
  • Experience with union payroll processing and union-related reporting requirements
  • CPA designation preferred but not required
