PositionThe Sr. Portfolio Manager primary purpose is to ensure objectives related to credit underwriting and internal portfolio management are met, in addition to supporting the workflow of the Commercial Team of RMs and commercial lending associates. This position will provide approval within established guidelines for daily credit/portfolio administrative activity.
Job PurposeThe Portfolio Manager builds credible relationships based on what is good for the Bank and what is good for the client, with a genuine belief that personal success will be a result of client success. Act as a CIBC’s senior relationship manager for commercial banking’s larger clients and prospective clients, requiring in-depth relationship coverage and customized financial solutions. The primary focus is on the origination of new clients, and new opportunities with existing clients.
As primary relationship manager, the Senior Director holds ultimate client and credit risk accountability, and maximizes profitability of major account relationships ensuring RAR, and RAROC objectives are met.
- Manage a portfolio of Asset Based clients
- Become a trusted advisor with our clients to deliver the entire bank to them
- Hold client discussions to negotiate credit terms and structures
- Meet all compliance and regulatory requirements
- Negotiate legal documents with outside attorney

- Completing all annual Corporate Mandatory Training and Testing modules, as well as any additional business-specific modules, as required and employing the learnings in daily activities and undertakings
- Escalating matters through one of the appropriate channels identified in the CIBC Code of Conduct (i.e., HR, management, Ethics Hotline, Whistle blower, etc.) upon observing activities that may be inconsistent with CIBC’s policies, frameworks, guidelines, processes and controls
- Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders
- Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution
- College Degree with Accounting/ Finance
- 10+ years of ABL credit experience
- Working knowledge of ABLE or STUCKY operating system
