We are looking for a Financial Reporting Director to work for our client. The ideal candidate aligns with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below.

Our client is seeking a Financial Reporting Director to lead external reporting, technical accounting, and internal control frameworks for their organization in Chicago, Illinois. This role is responsible for the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of the company’s financial statements and will collaborate closely with senior leadership to support strategic decision‑making, reporting enhancements, and process improvements.

The ideal candidate brings deep GAAP expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a background in complex or multi‑entity environments.

Position Overview

The Financial Reporting Director will oversee preparation of consolidated financial statements, manage external audit relationships, implement new accounting standards, and strengthen internal reporting processes. This individual will also lead special projects related to system improvements, automation, technical accounting, and corporate governance. The role requires exceptional technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee external reporting requirements and manage the audit process
  • Conduct and document technical accounting research; assess and implement new standards
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies
  • Oversee consolidation processes and reporting for multi‑entity structures
  • Partner with FP&A, operations, and leadership on financial insights and strategy
  • Drive process improvements, reporting automation, and system enhancements
  • Manage and mentor a team of financial reporting professionals
  • Support special projects such as M&A integration, system upgrades, or policy development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA required
  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting or technical accounting
  • Strong expertise in US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Public accounting experience (preferably Big
    4) strongly preferred
  • Experience in complex organizational structures or multi‑entity consolidations
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop high‑performing teams
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Experience with reporting systems, ERP platforms, and automation tools
