Corporate Tax Senior Manager
- Chicago, IL

As the Corporate Tax Senior Manager, you will be a member of our corporate tax practice and work on business income tax planning, corporate compliance, and ASC 740 income tax accounting (either tax provision preparation or audit support) projects. The Corporate Tax team generally has the primary tax relationship with the client, and you will help with the engagement management for multiple clients for your service line – all with the resources, environment, and support to help you excel.

Success in the Senior Manager role is the primary pathway to Partner or Managing Director in our firm. You will collaborate with other team members and specialists in our tax practice, including our Washington National Tax Office (WNTO), to support all areas of the clients tax functions, because together is how we succeed. Compensation
:

USD $152,000 – $228,000 / yr

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise multiple client service teams across engagements, including planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects across a wide range of industries.
  • Collaborate with team members and specialists within the tax practice, including the Washington National Tax Office (WNTO) to support all aspects of clients tax functions.
  • Provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to clients.
  • Design, market, sell, and implement tax planning strategies while managing engagements within established budgets.
  • Support firm growth and profitability by leveraging external networks, achieving sales and revenue targets, and identifying opportunities to expand services for existing and prospective clients.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, professional organizations, and community events to enhance both personal and firm branding.
  • Manage engagement economics, including realization, utilization, leverage, accounts receivable, and expenses.
  • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff; assess performance for engagement evaluations and year-end reviews.
  • Perform primary and secondary reviews of complex tax returns and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and identify tax-saving opportunities.
  • Conduct primary and secondary reviews of ASC 740 income tax provision engagements.
  • Research and consult on a wide range of tax issues and technical matters.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, maintaining strong working relationships with client management and staff at all levels.
  • Develop an understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives, and apply that knowledge to deliver effective tax services.
  • Attend ongoing professional development and training sessions to maintain technical expertise.
  • Adhere to the highest professional standards, including strict confidentiality requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Master's degree in taxation, LLM in Taxation or JD preferred
  • Minimum five to seven years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience
  • CPA or JD/active law license required
  • Tax Software - ONESOURC
  • Experience in corporate income tax and strong ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP and corporate income tax laws and regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of broad-based statutory income tax compliance and consulting including state and local income taxes, taxation of international activity, and transfer pricing
  • Exceptional client service, communication skills, interpersonal, and presentation skills
