Accounting Description
The Finance and Grants Accountant plays a key role in ensuring financial reporting and strong grant compliance across the organization. This detail-oriented, analytical professional will manage accounts receivable, oversee incoming funds, and support multiple government grants – from tracking expenditures to preparing reports and vouchers. This role collaborates closely with staff across departments and clubs and contributes directly to the organization’s mission-driven impact.

Job Responsibilities )
- Audit, record, and reconcile cash receipts from all departments and clubs
- Maintain pledge receivables for special events and major gifts
- Process weekly deposits using remote desktop capture equipment
- Review the general ledger to identify allowable expenses for multiple government grants
- Prepare grant reports, billing, and vouchers; monitor status of outstanding receivables
- Track grant spending to ensure full and timely use of funds; coordinate budget revisions as needed
- Build relationships with grant funders & internal stakeholders to support compliance and communication
- Support new grant applications, renewals, and amendments
- B.A./B.S. degree required
- 4 or more years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience a plus)
- Strong general ledger experience (Abila MIP preferred) and advanced Excel skills
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse teams
- Must be able to work independently (as well as on a team) and prioritize in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment.

Normal internal office environment. Occasional need to travel to club locations in Chicago. Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift frequently. Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
