Job SummaryThe Tax Managing Director is responsible for applying industry‑specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating alternatives to reduce tax burden and compliance costs, identifying compliance methods while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. The role includes recognizing, communicating risks and policy changes, making top‑level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal and state agencies.
It also involves direct supervision as a final or secondary reviewer under the partner and active participation in marketing, networking, and business development while maintaining client relationships.
- Tax Compliance
- Ensure clients comply with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens and maintain Firm policies, standards, and the TQM.
- Manage engagements to achieve engagement management metrics.
- Provide hands‑on client service delivery.
- Encourage team adherence to TQM policies.
- Research
- Identify when research is needed, frame issues, and report analysis.
- Provide research methodology for efficient process.
- Perform technical review of WTAs within area of expertise.
- ASC 740 (FAS 109 & FIN 48) Tax Accruals
- Apply firm policies regarding FAS 109 & FIN 48 with TQM.
- Apply expertise in income tax provisions for international tax, valuation allowance credits, business combinations, and stock‑based compensation.
- Review and apply income tax provisions efficiently.
- Tax Consulting
- Develop, recommend, and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits and reduce current and future taxes.
- Apply expert knowledge combining tax and business/industry expertise.
- Use general knowledge of multiple tax specialties (International, SALT, Estate Planning) for issue identification and resolution.
- Tax Specialization
- Deep understanding of technical and practical issues related to corporate, property, sales, pass‑through, state/local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits, incentives, compensation, benefits, accounting methods, and R&D tax.
- Expert knowledge of standards.
- Recognized industry expert in specialized field.
- Advise clients on compliance and alternative actions.
- Strategy Development
- Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve client, firm, or personnel positions.
- Present complex strategies to clients as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience, public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- CPA, attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and compliance process software preferred.
