Position: Senior Associate / Assistant Vice President – Portfolio Group
Position Description

Monroe is seeking restructuring/turnaround/credit professionals in a role managing existing investments in direct, club and syndicated leveraged loan transactions. The candidate will work as part of a team focusing on early intervention and managing Monroe’s higher risk rated investments (senior debt, junior capital, and equity).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have experience with the following:

• Lead in the management of a select portfolio of the firm’s higher risk rated investments through enhanced financial/operational monitoring and frequent interaction with company management, financial sponsors, and third-party consultants/financial advisors.

• Design, develop and implement strategies for maximizing portfolio investment recoveries.

• Prepare analysis and modeling of potential restructuring alternatives.

• Conduct negotiation with various constituencies including financial sponsors, company management, other bank group members, and other lenders in the capital structure.

• Coordinate and manage legal counsel and other external professionals, including consultants and financial advisors.

• Prepare and present restructure/amendment/waiver memorandums.

• Provide regular financial and strategic updates (both written and verbal) on portfolio accounts.

• Participate in review and negotiation of legal terms and documentation on individual transactions/amendments/waivers.

• Review and analyze Borrower financial reporting, monitor key performance indicators, and track operational and financial trends.

• Maintain knowledge of business and market trends that may affect portfolio performance.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 3-7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Principal investing (e.g., private credit, private equity, etc.)

• Special situations investment banking (debt placements, refinancing or distressed M&A)

• Restructuring/turnaround/lender advisory or interim management

• Leveraged finance and portfolio management

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following:

• Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record from a top-tier undergraduate university

• Strong research, accounting and financial analysis skills, with the ability to build financial models, analyze financial statements, and interpret cash flow dynamics

• Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products (especially Excel)

• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced setting with proficiency at multi-task on multiple projects/deals, focus on detail and accuracy and follow-through

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) on multiple projects

• Skill to work well within a small team and meet tight deadlines, using own initiative without close supervision

Physical Requirements

• Sitting:
Frequently (approximately 70–80% of the workday)
- Required for computer work, phone communication, and administrative tasks.

• Standing and Walking:
Occasionally (approximately 20-30% of the workday)
- May be required for filing, retrieving documents, or walking between departments or meeting rooms.
- May be required to walk between Monroe offices located on different floors in the building
- May be required to use a step-stool to access supplies

• Lifting/Carrying:
Occasionally
- Must be able to lift and carry items such as office supplies, boxes of paper, or small equipment (typically up to 20 pounds).

• Reaching/Bending:
Occasionally
- Required when organizing supplies, accessing low or high shelves, or setting up meeting rooms.

• Typing/Keyboard Use:
Frequently
- Daily use of computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment is required.

• Vision and Hearing:
Frequently
- Adequate vision for reading reports, emails, and spreadsheets.
- Adequate hearing for phone conversations and verbal communication in meetings.

• Speaking:
Frequently
- Must be able to communicate clearly with staff, vendors, and external partners.
