The Role:
Principal Consultant - Critical Minerals (USA)
This role will contribute to the growth of our global critical minerals consulting team and to the execution of our broader Energy Transition team's projects for private and public sector clients by providing analytical rigor, expertise in model development, and the ability to manage entire work streams and develop client-ready deliverables.
The Principal Consultant, focused primarily on critical minerals but with a good handle of other energy-related topics, is expected to help build up our consulting capabilities around critical minerals and work closely with clients and internal consulting team members to ensure that bespoke consulting projects are delivered with quality, on time and within budget.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of consultants and experts with wide-ranging backgrounds in energy and the energy transition. The varied and changing nature of our projects leads to development of a diverse set of skills, and exposure to different industries and clients, including senior industry leaders and policy makers.
Responsibilities:
* Effectively manage work streams within a project, under the direction of the project manager.
* Develop advanced cost, financial and market models on critical minerals and metals costs, especially focused on midstream (processing, smelters, refineries)
* Contribute to business development efforts of our critical minerals consulting practice (proposals, scoping calls, conferences, etc.)
* Deliver against each project's plan to ensure on-time delivery of a quality set of products.
* Conduct client interviews, workshops, and presentations to gather information and present recommendations.
* Develop insights and recommendations based on data analysis and industry expertise to enhance our reputation in critical minerals
* Efficiently review analysis and modelling efforts done by other team members and provide feedback for improvement.
* Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients through effective communication and understanding of client needs.
* Be able to work autonomously in the execution of consulting engagements.
What We're Looking For:
* At least four to eight years of experience in industry and/or consulting
* Extensive experience in metals & mining consulting or direct mining company experience (in an geology role, operational role, strategy role, finance role).
* Chemical, mining, mineral economics or process engineer experience appreciated
* In-depth knowledge of the mine and metals processing and operations is critical for this position, including understanding processing costs, market dynamics, supply chains, and regulatory frameworks.
* Experience in areas related to the energy sector is appreciated
* Experience in management consulting will be a significant plus.
* The ability to work with autonomy and minimal direction once priorities are agreed is preferrable.
* Minimum qualifications are BSc. in a related field.
* A post-graduate degree is a strong plus (including in finance, economics, or business).
* Strong written and oral presentation skills in English, knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is appreciated.
* Must have an analytical frame of mind and be prepared to use data to back up opinions.
Expectations:
* Some travel is required, with an average around 20% of the time (but could occasionally be more)
* Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment providing ideas and open feedback.

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $ to . Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive sales commission plan.
