Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to receive day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer. Installs, maintains, repairs and monitors for proper operations the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) operational systems. Makes rounds of buildings' boiler and mechanical at regular intervals.
Tests and records of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems. Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services. Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
Travels in performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
* Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer at the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center (CRMHC).
* Makes rounds of buildings' boiler and mechanical at regular intervals.
* Tests and records of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems.
* Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
* Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
* Completes all mandatory training for Department of Human Services (DHS) and CRMHC for compliance with all regulations for Mental Health Centers.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
* Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
Preferred Qualifications
* Four (4) years of specialized experience in the operation of high-pressure/low-pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their apparatuses.
* Three (3) years of specialized experience in water treatment and various chemicals used in boiler systems.
* Three (3) years of specialized experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning/HVAC systems.
* Three (3) years of professional experience directing the work of employees and outside contractors engaged in the operation and maintenance of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
