Field Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first-line maintenance and support to existing customers.
• Carry out installation and commissioning activities for both project and maintenance work.
• Respond to interventions within SLA and provide timely updates to the Global Service Desk.
• Lead complex fault-finding tasks across optical, IP and cabling technologies.
• Provide technical oversight, guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Supervise installation teams and ensure adherence to Field Quality Installation Standards.
• Manage RAMS documentation and conduct field quality audits.
• Perform cable installation, dressing, labelling, testing and termination (fibre and copper).
• Support AC/DC power connectivity (no live power-up).
• Own assigned faults and designated projects through to full resolution.
• Produce accurate project documentation and assist with basic project management tasks when required.
• Support HSE and SVSA inspections as needed.
• Work flexibly, including participation in the on‑call rota.

Essential skills and experience include:

• Proven experience in building telecoms infrastructure to high technical standards.
• Strong background in commissioning and testing transmission systems (PDH, SDH, DWDM, optical).
• Solid IP WAN/LAN networking knowledge, including protocol testing up to 100G.
• Hands‑on experience with Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Juniper and Cisco equipment.
• Competency in structured cabling, fibre testing and OTDR/Ethernet/OSA fault diagnostics.
• Ability to lead, mentor and support junior engineers.
• Strong reporting, communication and customer‑facing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage workload effectively.
• Full valid driving licence.

This is a reactive, field‑based role with varying locations. The position is home‑based when not attending customer sites.
