Stationary Engineer *Stationary ; Chaicgo

Position: STATIONARY ENGINEER *Stationary License Required (City of Chaicgo)
Operates and tends boilers. Boiler auxiliary equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors, and controls for the generation of steam for heating, cooling (chilled water), sterilizing, cooking and laundering. Operates and maintains proper temperatures and pressures on chillers, boilers, chilled water systems, hot water heating systems, steam heating systems, ventilation systems, domestic hot water systems, and house water systems. Provides environmental comfort control throughout the hospital.

Surveys areas and equipment, performs tests and prepares the required logs and reports for record retention. Incumbents are subject to overtime and callback as required by the hospital.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Two (2) years of experience in high-pressure boiler operation and maintenance; one (1) year of experience of H.V.A.C. operation and maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE &

SKILLS:

• Must have a working knowledge of the principles of steam generation and distribution; have a working knowledge of the construction of boilers and the functions of boiler auxiliaries and controls; be able to perform the prescribed water tests, interpret the result of such tests and the need for proper water treatment; have a working knowledge of air handling units, chillers, environmental comfort controls, convertors, hot water heating systems, steam heating systems, pumps and compressors;
  
  and have the mechanical and physical abilities and knowledge required to perform preventive and repair maintenance on plant equipment and systems.
• Working knowledge of local, state and national regulations.
• Ability to communicate with Department Heads and Supervisors to exchange information, schedule work, secure information, and provide advice and information on frequent basis.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Must have a current City of Chicago Stationary Engineer's License.
• Compliant with PPD requirements.
• Maintains valid Driver's license.
