CAD Operator – Roadway

Kimley-Horn is looking for an experienced CAD Operator to join our Roadway team in Chicago, IL. This role involves developing concepts, performing preliminary engineering, and delivering final designs for roadway projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop concepts and work on preliminary engineering and final design for projects
  • Design geometric alignments, profiles, surface models, cross sections, grading, drainage, superelevation, construction details, work zone traffic control, erosion control, and signing and striping plans
  • Produce and quality‑check technical drawings and plans using CAD software
  • Perform calculations of moderate complexity
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Apply engineering principles and suggest design changes
  • Maintain drawing database
  • Coordinate work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
  • Mentor and train CAD staff as needed
  • Become familiar with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree preferred)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self‑starter
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team

Salary range: $60,000 - $85,000
