Our growing Water (WTR) practice is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to support complex, fast-paced infrastructure projects in northeastern Illinois. These projects, while smaller in size, are technically demanding and play a critical role in enabling major sewer rehabilitation programs for the City.
This role offers the opportunity to take on technical leadership
, contribute to high-impact capital programs
, and mentor engineers within a respected, collaborative engineering environment.
- Lead civil design from conceptual development through final design
- Prepare civil specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations
- Review vendor drawings and coordinate with suppliers, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Support project planning including scope, schedule, staffing, budget, and construction planning
- Manage and evaluate change orders
- Apply expert knowledge of civil engineering codes, standards, and best practices
- Develop non-standard design solutions for complex engineering challenges
- Perform QA/QC reviews of production drawings, specifications, and construction documentation
- Support construction administration, including field inspections and resolving installation issues
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry audiences
- Build and maintain strong client and contractor relationships
- Participate in business development, sales, and proposal efforts
- Develop and manage project budgets, cost estimates, and performance reporting
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to practice leadership
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, QA/QC standards, and company procedures
One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited) + 7 years of civil engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Engineering Technology (ABET accredited) +
FE exam completed + 7 years of experience - Master’s degree in Civil Engineering + 6 years of experience
- EPC project experience (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to review detailed engineering documents and specifications
- Excellent organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Work on critical water and sewer infrastructure projects
