Job Title: Staff Engineering Technician (Temp-to-Hire)

An established engineering organization is seeking a Staff Engineering Technician to support substation design projects in a senior‑level technical capacity. This is a temp‑to‑hire opportunity for a candidate who can contribute with minimal supervision and support drafting and design efforts within the substation industry.

This role requires strong experience using Autodesk Inventor with Substation Design Suite (SDS) and hands‑on exposure to substation engineering projects. Candidates with Autodesk Inventor experience alone will be considered only if they have direct substation industry experience
. Candidates without substation experience will not be considered.

• Create and modify substation design deliverables using Autodesk Inventor and SDS.
• Develop drawings and models based on a variety of engineering design inputs.
• Perform detailed material take‑offs and quantity estimates.
• Support the development of design concepts for substation projects.

• Apply engineering standards, codes, document control procedures, and internal quality requirements.
• Review design inputs for accuracy and consistency.
• Ensure deliverables comply with applicable industry codes and project standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and change management initiatives.

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and reduce design conflicts.
• Support field activities as needed.
• Assist with project closeout activities including as‑built documentation and final records consolidation.

• Operate in a senior‑level technician capacity with minimal supervision.
• Provide technical guidance and direction to junior staff when appropriate.
• Delegate tasks and support knowledge sharing across the team.

• Support internal stakeholders while maintaining awareness of client priorities.
• Stay informed on evolving technologies and best practices within substation design.

• 3-5 years of experience using Autodesk Inventor with Substation Design Suite (SDS) in the substation industry.
• Direct experience supporting substation engineering projects (required).
• Ability to independently support drafting and design activities.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards, document control processes, and quality procedures.

• Candidates with Autodesk Inventor experience only (no substation industry experience) will not be considered.
• Substation industry experience is mandatory.

• Senior‑level Engineering Technician capable of working independently.
• Detail‑oriented with strong document control and standards compliance knowledge.
• Experience coordinating across engineering disciplines.
• Comfortable mentoring or guiding junior technical staff when needed.
