The Mechanical Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the Senior Director of Engineering in all technical aspects of the Chicago district cooling system including system operation, optimization & expansion, project development, budgeting & management, new customer analysis, and customer site reliability.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience, and is expected to bring a structured, collaborative, detail‑oriented and proactive approach. The ideal candidate must have a willingness to learn, drive to continuously improve, and is team‑centric with strong integrity.
Core Responsibilities- Monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of customer energy transfer station sensors, equipment and control systems
- Designing, planning, budgeting, and managing customer energy transfer station refurbishment projects
- Assist in designing, planning, budgeting, and managing new construction projects
- Provide technical support for business development initiatives including project feasibility, technology assessment and budgeting
- Interface with customers on technical issues
- Provide operating summaries and reports of plants and customer sites
- Assist with metered data assessments in support of billing, performance analysis, and forecasting
- Interface with local agencies for permitting and regulatory compliance
- Assist with distribution system street work planning and management
- Other technical/engineering activities that may be identified to aid in reaching company goals
- Demonstrates exceptional initiative and execution skills
- Collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills including being capable of developing and maintaining positive relationships internally and externally
- Highly analytical with a keen attention to detail
- Delivers high-quality work with speed and accuracy
- Adapts quickly in a dynamic, complex, and fast‑paced environment, managing changing priorities effectively
- Self‑motivated and proactive, able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Mechanical systems experience is essential
- Process and power systems experience highly desirable
- Civil and structural experience is desirable
- Five years’ professional experience
