Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to take control of their career potential by leading a multi-discipline team to address the challenges of North America’s largest utilities. Opportunities may include, but are not limited to:
- Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by the largest utilities in North America.
- Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, and secondary oil containment.
- Being mentored by more experienced engineers.
- Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
- Leading a team of single-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
- Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
- Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Participating in project proposal efforts.
- Advancing into leadership roles.
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET‑accredited program and three (3) years of structural engineering experience in the areas listed below. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET‑accredited program and two (2) years of structural engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, plus three (3) years of described experience in the areas listed below, is acceptable.
- Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, and secondary oil containment.
- Developing performance and material specifications
- Strong knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE
7). Experience with ASCE 113 strongly preferred. - Strong knowledge of structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Micro Station, Revit, Tekla).
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
- Being part of or leading a team of single-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
Compensation $- Yearly. The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
