Job Summary

As the Rail Pros Chief Engineer, your role is pivotal to the success and excellence of our engineering projects. Your primary responsibilities include monitoring client and project financial performance, overseeing client invoicing, conducting project reviews, developing and implementing the Project Delivery Quality Program, and ensuring scope and pricing compliance. You will also be responsible for monthly red flag reviews and the enhancement of our project delivery processes.

In addition, you will coordinate resource needs, staff forecasting, and hiring as secondary responsibilities, and actively support leadership, management, client relations, teaming, networking, and several other aspects of our organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze and oversee the financial performance of client accounts and engineering projects
  • Identify opportunities for cost control and revenue enhancement
  • Monitor client invoicing, work in progress (WIP), and accounts receivable (AR)
  • Lead and participate in project reviews to ensure quality, client satisfaction, and adherence to project goals
  • Develop improvement strategies based on project feedback
  • Establish and implement a Project Delivery Quality Program to ensure adherence to quality standards and best practices
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement among project teams
  • Review and approve project scopes and pricing to ensure accuracy and compliance with established rules and standards
  • Enforce pricing and scope rules effectively
  • Conduct monthly reviews to identify potential issues, risks, and areas requiring attention within the engineering portfolio
  • Develop strategies to address any red flags promptly
  • Oversee the effective use of Netsuite and project delivery processes
  • Continuously enhance and optimize these processes for efficiency and quality
  • Collaborate in assessing resource needs for projects and coordinating hiring efforts
  • Ensure the allocation of the right talent to projects
  • Identify opportunities to present at national conferences and forums, showcasing the organizations expertise
  • Share innovative topics and research to enhance the organizations reputation
  • Contribute to organizational leadership and structuring or organizational structure or participating in key strategic decisions
  • Identify and nominate deserving projects and individuals for industry awards
  • Promote a culture of recognition and celebrate achievements within the organization
  • Provide recommendations for the development of supervisors and the organizational char
  • Participate in compensation decisions, including raises and bonuses for the team
  • Implement effective communication strategies to ensure information flows efficiently between the office and corporate headquarters
  • Foster clear and transparent communication within the organization
  • Collaborate in implementing strategies to manage and optimize overhead and indirect costs efficiently
  • Ensure efficient resource allocation and utilization for maximum productivity
  • Provide support for identifying and facilitating internal and external training opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge
  • Ensure staff remains up to date with industry best practices and regulations
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of the engineering industry and relevant regulations
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in quality control procedures, project management methodologies, and process improvement strategies.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Professional engineering license (PE)
  • 20+ years prior engineering experience
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering or project management roles
  • Extensive experience in the rail industry, with a proven track record in engineering, CM, and PM/CM roles.
