Role summary

The Rail Equipment Lead is responsible for overseeing maintenance and regulatory compliance planning and execution for bp’s North American railcar fleet. This role is part of a skilled commercial and technical team that works closely with BP Rail Businesses across the Americas. This position is also responsible for working with bp’s HSSE group to ensure safe and reliable movement of bp’s rail shipments.

BP currently operates a portfolio of approximately 8,500 railcars, which support the transportation of commodities such as NGLs, Crude Oil, Refinery By-products, Biofuels, and Biofuel feed stocks.

Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure fleet compliance with AAR, DOT and FRA regulations.
  • Manage OT-57 and OTMA applications.
  • Management fleet maintenance activities performed by 3rd party providers.
  • Assist in the management of key 3rd Party interfaces including Bourque Logistics and Alltranstek.
  • Work closely with HSSE group to investigate and resolve fleet issues or incidents.
  • Develop annual rail equipment budget including cleaning, lease return, maintenance and regulatory compliance costs.
  • Assist in rail fleet sizing models and lead efforts to improve rail car utilization and reduce equipment costs.
  • Support acquisition, return or swapping (between bp fleets) of leased rail cars.

Essential education, experience and job requirements

  • Strong working knowledge related to the code of federal regulations, AAR/FRA, and Tankcar specific rules and regulations
  • Tankcar management experience with both general purpose and pressure cars
  • Experience in Oil, Gas, Biofuels or similar industry

Note that the pay listed for this position is genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for US Benefits – Core. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full time employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
