It takes many skills to work on design-build and design-bid-build projects in the engineering and construction industry, from forming strong client relationships to delivering complex infrastructure projects in compliance with current and emerging regulations. We are seeking an experienced Staff Civil Engineer to support high-profile stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water projects across northeast Illinois. This role offers the opportunity to work in the field during the construction phase while growing professionally within one of the industry’s leading infrastructure engineering firms.
Projects may include drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems serving municipal and industrial clients.
- Perform field investigations, inspections, and site assessments across multiple project locations
- Provide Resident Engineering and Inspection services to ensure construction aligns with plans, specifications, and industry standards
- Create detailed daily field reports and project documentation
- Produce accurate quantity tracking data for contractor pay estimates and material certifications
- Coordinate with designers on shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders
- Maintain ongoing communication with Project Managers and Section Managers regarding site progress and issues
- Solve technical challenges related to project scope and construction parameters
- Interface directly with clients as required
- Ensure compliance with company, site, and safety policies
- Work productively in an office environment during project downtime
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience (consulting preferred), or
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the FE exam and 3 years of experience, or
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years of civil engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Prior experience supporting water, wastewater, or stormwater construction projects
- Ability to travel locally across the Chicago region
- Experience working in field-based construction environments
