Physical Security Engineer (Data Centers)
Jacobs is looking for a Physical Security Engineer to design and develop security solutions for data center buildings, facilities, and sites. The role involves leading security design efforts, creating schematics and plan drawings, performing calculations for video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads, and coordinating with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
Base Pay Range$ – $ per year
Responsibilities- Conduct preliminary assessments and vulnerability and risk assessments for physical security systems.
- Lead concept creation, design development, and drawing and specification production for video surveillance, access control, biometric, and intrusion detection systems.
- Coordinate with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams to identify conflicts or inconsistencies and evaluate emerging security technologies.
- Perform calculations for video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads and estimate and schedule mid‑to‑large‑scale project design effort.
- Work on several concurrent projects and ensure projects are completed on time.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical/scientific discipline; master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
- 12+ years of professional experience in planning, designing, and commissioning physical security systems and/or communication networks; project management experience is a plus.
- Professional security certifications (CISSP, CPP, PSP, etc.) are a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of physical security systems, including video surveillance, access control, biometric systems, and intrusion detection, and familiarity with leading manufacturers.
- Experience with conducting vulnerability and risk assessments, with an understanding of various assessment methodologies.
- Ability to evaluate emerging security technologies and analyze trade‑offs, such as multi‑megapixel cameras to thermal imaging cameras or assessing ground‑based radar versus Lidar for perimeter intrusion detection applications.
- Strong understanding of network technologies and cybersecurity principles.
- Exceptional problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide/receive constructive feedback.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam and design collaboration tools.
- Experience with Revit, ACC, BIM
360, AutoCAD, and/or Micro Station. - Thorough knowledge of CSI design and construction specifications.
- Experience estimating and scheduling mid‑to‑large‑scale project design effort.
- Knowledge of construction cost estimating for security implementation.
